Alexa is compatible with most music streaming services
I love streaming music, and have been a Spotify user for a few years now. Thankfully, it’s easy to connect Alexa to Spotify, as well as a host of other major music streaming services. So, whether you prefer Apple Music, SiriusXM, Vevo, Pandora or iHeartRadio, you’re covered.
In this article, we’ll specifically cover the Spotify integration.
Why you should connect Alexa to Spotify
If you’re a Spotify user, this is a no-brainer. You likely have a few favorite playlists or saved albums, and maybe even listen to a podcast via Spotify. By pairing Spotify with your Alexa device, you can set Spotify as your preferred default music player, so when you ask Alexa to play music, it streams from Spotify (versus Amazon Music).
Can't Link Spotify To Alexa
While you could easily stream Spotify music to your Alexa device via Bluetooth, having the Spotify skill integration set up saves you a few extra steps each day.
How to connect Alexa to Spotify
Setting up the Alexa/Spotify integration takes less than one minute if you already have a Spotify account! Here’s how:
- Open your Alexa app
- Tap the hamburger icon in the upper left corner
- Tap “Settings”
- Scroll down, and tap “Music & Podcasts”
- Tap “Spotify” under the Manage Services section
- Tap “Link Account”
- Follow simple instructions on account linking page
That’s it! Now, when you want to listen to music, just say “Alexa, play Sia on Spotify.”
Set Spotify as your default music player
Making Spotify your default music player means you can shorten your voice commands. Once you have made Spotify your default, simply say “Alexa, play Sia” (leaving out the “on Spotify”).
Here’s how to make sure Alexa plays music from Spotify and not Amazon Music:
- Open the Alexa app
- Tap the hamburger icon in the upper left corner
- Tap “Settings”
- Scroll down, and tap “Music & Podcasts”
- Tap “Default Services”
- Set Spotify as your default under the headings “Music” and “Artist & Genre Stations”
